This candle is made in collaboration with my dear friend (and favorite poet) Michelle Awad in honor of her new book Sudden Seances!

A note from Michelle herself: 

I’ve always thought of Sudden Seances as a book about memory and all the weird ways it finds us again. You can go years without thinking about something, and then you hear a song or catch a familiar smell and suddenly you’re sixteen again, or back in a house you haven’t seen in twenty years, or thinking about someone you thought you’d forgotten.

That’s really why I wanted to make a candle for this book. Smell is so tied to memory, sometimes more than we realize. I loved the idea of giving Sudden Seances a scent that could become part of someone else’s experience of reading it.

I’ve been a fan of Evil Queen for years, so getting to create VEILWORK with them was a dream. We spent more than six months figuring out what belonged in the world of this book, and ended up with a scent that's been haunting the hallways of my house ever since (in the best way). 

I hope you light it while you read poetry, while you cook dinner, while you write, while you have friends over, while you’re doing absolutely nothing special. I hope you make a million little memories with it burning somewhere in the background.

And maybe years from now, you’ll catch a familiar smell and suddenly find yourself back in one of them. Those, in my opinion, are the best kinds of séances.
